The IETF released the updated DMARC specification (RFC 9989), which introduces a new optional 'np=' policy tag. This tag provides a standardized mechanism for domain owners to explicitly define policies for nonexistent subdomains, preventing attackers from abusing these subdomains for spoofing. Unlike previous versions where handling of nonexistent subdomains relied on receiver heuristics, the 'np=' tag allows explicit 'none', 'quarantine', or 'reject' policies to be published, helping improve email authentication accuracy and security.
Valimail was acquired by digital trust provider DigiCert in September 2025. The move integrates Valimail's automated DMARC, SPF, and BIMI platform with DigiCert's broader digital identity and security portfolio. The company confirms it continues to operate its suite of email authentication products while working to integrate zero-trust email authentication across broader digital interactions.
Valimail updated its 'Amplify' platform to include support for the BIMI 'AVP' (Avatar Preference) tag. The AVP tag enables organizations to specify whether mailbox providers should display their corporate brand logo or an individual sender's personal avatar in the inbox. This allows companies to align their BIMI records with the latest specification and set preferences as mailbox providers expand support for individual avatar identification at the protocol level.
