Shield AI and Honeywell Aerospace signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on developing a trusted autonomy software stack. This initiative will integrate Honeywell's Anthem avionics, navigation, and sensing portfolio into Shield AI’s Hivemind software suite. The partnership aims to facilitate the transition of autonomous systems from demonstration to deployment for commercial and defense applications, while also evaluating the use of Honeywell’s safety-critical components on Shield AI’s uncrewed aerial platforms.
Shield AI’s V-BAT unmanned aircraft system achieved SAIL III operational authorization under the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Specific Category framework, representing the highest level of authorization in Europe for unmanned maritime operations to date. The certification, granted by Italy's National Aviation Authority (ENAC), supported a pilot project with Frontex and the Italian Coast Guard. Operating from a patrol vessel, the V-BAT completed 150 flight hours over 19 days in the Mediterranean, successfully demonstrating search and rescue capabilities and coordination in complex maritime environments.
Shield AI and L3Harris Technologies successfully conducted the first live flight test of the Distributed Spectrum Collaboration and Operations electromagnetic battle management system integrated with Shield AI's Hivemind software. Conducted on an L3Harris Green Wolf platform, the demonstration showcased the autonomous detection, analysis, and response to electromagnetic threats. The system autonomously rerouted follow-on unmanned systems through safe operating zones without human intervention, validating the software's ability to compress the sensor-to-decision cycle during electronic warfare operations.
Shield AI and partner Destinus have successfully integrated the Hivemind autonomous software onto the Destinus Hornet test platform. The project, conducted in stages, demonstrated the software's capability for autonomous mission planning, terrain-following, and team coordination between the Hornet and V-BAT aircraft. This integration, achieved in under two months, establishes a technical framework for migration to the Destinus Ruta deep-strike cruise missile. The collaboration aims to enable autonomous strike teams in denied and contested environments, while maintaining human command authority.
Shield AI has completed the acquisition of Aechelon Technology, a simulation and visual effects company. Following the acquisition, Aechelon will operate within Shield AI to provide synthetic environment data for machine learning and autonomy development. The integration aims to create a closed-loop training system where operational data from Hivemind-enabled aircraft feeds into high-fidelity synthetic environments, allowing for the accelerated training and testing of autonomous systems at large scale.
